Karate History
This martial art for unarmed combat originated in Tang China and was further developed in Okinawa, where it was originally called karate. Karate is different from the other martial arts in that it was secretly practiced by the common people who were not allowed to bear arms
“Karate” is a marshal art that has been developed in the Ryukyu kingdom, which is now the Okinawa prefecture in Japan.
Its competition is composed by two types of acts, one called the “Kata (form)”, and the other called “Kumite (competition)”. “Kata” is a performance that is performed alone, which its form and orders are already fixed. It is focused to lead the performer achieving its unique forms which they can use effectively in the actual “Kumite (competition)”.
Compared to that, “Kumite (competition)” is an act performed by two athletes. There are different types such as, “Yakusoku-Kumitte(1-step Kumite)” that its performance is fixed, “Jiyu-Kummite (semi-free-Kumite)” which is closer to how karate would look if used in a real fight by performing various performance, and finally a “Kumite-jiai(real fight match)” which is a real fight match.
