Yamanashi Gakuin University Karate Club

I  worked at Yamanashi Gakuin University. I was Head coach of the Yamanashi Gakuin University Karate club.

Yamanashi Gakuin University is one and a half hours away by car from Tokyo. The university  is set in a nice area, and surrounded by nature. The buildings are also European style and we can see Mt Fuji.

Yamanashi Gakuin University’s  students went to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and got medals.  Some of the sports clubs from our University, have entered competitions and have come first out of all other university sports clubs in  Japan.

Heading for the establishment of the Yamanashi Gakuin spirit one victory at a time

Guiding principles: We aim for teaching our students to be independent yet cooperative, go through joys and sorrows together and lead meaningful lives, regardless of the students’ different goals and aspirations. Through karate, we do our best to encourage international and regional exchange and to provide support for the students’ time after graduation. We aim to make our students good athletes and good people through karate training and various other initiatives.
We want to become the best in the men’s and women’s university championships’ individual and group competition kata and win world championships.

Important achievements

Its history began with the victory of the women’s team at the National University General Sports Tournament kata competition and has since showed steady achievements in both individual and team competitions. It works under the motto “making students good athletes and good people”.

Misaki Tanaka wins the World University Karate Championship – the late-blooming champion aims for Tokyo

Tanaka silently checks her moves in a mirror at the Yamanashi Gakuin University Jutokukan dojo. The fourth-year university student won her debut women’s kata competition of the 10th World University Karate Championship (August, Portugal). In her days of high school, she didn’t win any national tournaments. But she continued polishing her moves and after winning the world championship, the late-blooming champion aims for the Olympics held in Tokyo in 2020.
